Rage from the narcissist

Can someone please explain the reason for rage from a narcissist? As I mentioned before, my narcissist dumped me brutally and cut off all contact with me. I am left confused. He goes into rages to people about how mentally unbalanced and sick I am? He just can't even be civil to me or my friends.
