Do they apologize?

Hi all,

Just a question I am trying to make sense of:

Do Narcs apologize? Due to my experience my possible N found it "difficult" to apologize - He even admitted it to me. On our last and final fight where he said things attacking myself and my family that were truly hurtful he never once thought to apologize. He questioned why I had left so abruptly but never once did it occur to him that he "owes" me an apology - which really was all that I was looking for. When he became aware of me expecting/wanting an apology his "excuse" was that "he wasn't use to apologizing" (?!?!) . He managed to apologize after that "by text"! but when i told him that I wanted to hear and face to face so I went over to his house so we could just finally move on as all I wanted was reassurance that when fights break out we would be mature enough on both parts to apologize he just kept saying "you know I would never want to hurt you" and then tried to avoid the topic. It was as if it was nearly impossible for him to say the words"I'm sorry for hurting you in any way etc etc". I told him that in order to be in any relationship both parties need to know how and when to apologize.

What I found hard to understand is WHY did he find it so hard to say the words "I'm sorry" ?!????
