Liberace: When Self-Love Runs Amok

So, I was channel-surfing the other day. Three hundred channels and NOTHING on- I know you've been there!

Then I came across a strange sight. A man with obviously too much cosmetic surgery. And he looked like a caricature of Liberace (You know, the 1950's answer to Elton John).

I knew it wasn't that flamboyant pianist from a bygone era- the man was too young and too, well... alive! So I just sat there on my couch feeling like a gawker to a multi-car crash. The man was just that weird-looking and I was too mesmerized to change the channel.

Evidently, the Liberace-clone was actually Scott Thorson, his (then) live-in chauffeur and lover. And the reason for his resemblance to 'Lee' was because, he told the interviewer, Liberace had his cosmetic surgeon perform multiple facial surgeries on the (then) teen-aged Scott. The stated reason was that Liberace wanted Thorson to look as if he could be his son.

Ewwwwwwwww! It made my skin crawl!

Now. You and I know how auto-erotic Narcs are and I doubt that Liberace had a paternal motive here. Sounds more like the older man wanted to literally 'make love' to himself. (I was going to use the 'F' word here!) Of course a younger, more handsome version of himself...His 'idealized self'.

And Narcissus only had the water's surface to smooch!

Anyway, much more could be said here but I just want to add:

HELP! I'm seeing Narcs EVERYWHERE!

I guess that once our awareness is 'tuned in' that this is just the natural fallout.
