Professing their GenuisHood

I was just curious if anyone had this with their N. My xN would often, in fact daily, tell me the he was of Genius Level. However; their were no clear signs indicating that he possessed this gift what so ever. He had trouble with basic sentence structure, he talked in riddles that made no sense, he couldn't spell, read, write or use proper grammar and punctuation. He had no formal education nor the desire to attain a degree. Hes a construction worker and thinks that this profession is on the level of neuro surgeons??? I just never got this. How can he see that he is a genius? Wouldnt a Narc need something to validate this thought? He had no basis or ground to consider this. This has always dumbfounded me??

Himself proclaims to be a "Gold Collar Worker" and proudly pontificates that he has an A+ personality (like its a good thing). One day I told him "Truly great men don't have to walk around telling everyone how great they are". He just stared at me like a deer in the head lights and said "What do you mean by that?" LOL

A 'mine of information?'....er I don't think so :)

Mine was a miner for 15 years until they closed the pit down and now drives for a construction company...BUT, he constantly critises his superiors as being Aholes, he could do the job better standing on his head? Funnily enough his grammar is extremely poor too and he thinks everything he does from buttering his bread (yep, its an art form apparently) to building a wall at the bottom of his garden (he informed one of my friends whose husband has been a bricklayer for 30 years damnit) that his wall is a masterpiece, it's just a wall damnit. Let them live in their soup EERIER (sorry, thats how I see their worlds now) if it pleases them, lets just stick em all behind a 50 foot brick wall and let them butter their bread and dip it into their eerie soup for all ETERNITY :)

The ex-Psych professor expected to be treated as a celebrity. He treated HIS COLLEAGUES with disdain if they called him by his real name instead of his surname. He had an Oedipus complex that would make Oedipus jealous... because his father IS famous, and the ex-P assumed he'd be famous by default. His father has published textbooks, is a researcher, has legions of students who love him, I've heard him on NPR... and let's just say the son is NOTHING like the father. The ex-P had NUMEROUS spelling problems. His grammar was labored and long-winded. He liked using big words to sound smart. It explains how he treats his students and his colleagues. He thinks he's brilliance incarnate--yet you have probably never heard of him. He was afraid that if I knew the "REAL HIM" that I'd mock him.... *cue self-fulfilling prophecy* Tons of pretentiousness, little philosophy. Couldn't come up with an original idea even if he got enlightened with the Yaqui shaman Don Juan.

"Wouldnt a Narc need something to validate this thought?" Nooooope! That's what makes Narcs sooooooo special. In their minds, they are the only "real" person in existance, and so it follows. When the Universe revolves around you, you get to call the shots, define reality, and are entitled to enforce it, dontcha know?

Boasting

This ones hard for me. He (jokingly, yet not so...) called himself a creative genius. Although, very boastful and to most over the top, he had a lot to support it... plus this wasn't really that uncommon in this field and group of friends.

so funny

Reading this makes me smile. Mine had a 'brain the size of a planet'. He proclaimed to have three University Degrees (never saw a certificate) and all his bosses were 'jealous a**holes'. He also claimed he could 'write psychology books in his sleep'....oh, and the funniest....he told me that some USA University had called him up to offer him a Doctorate in Philosophy....just like that! I kid you not! :-) Web Of Lies - My Life with a Narcissist An honest and emotional account of life with a pathological partner. http://singlemumsal.blogspot.com/ http://www.sarahtateauthor.com/

7 years to a Master's Degree

The ex-Psych professor took SEVEN YEARS to get his master's degree at the University of Virginia. Normally, people take 1-3 years to get a master's. He claimed that he had SUCH DEEP THOUGHTS. But then again, one of his favorite Wittgenstein quotes was when Wittgenstein said that being a professor was like being a prostitute, that he was prostituting his great intellect...LOL... yep, he compared himself to a prostitute. How fitting. For once, he wasn't projecting. And now, some words of wisdom from my ex-Narc boss: "Work your own corner, honey."
